School of Arts & Culture
Partner
ArcTangent Dance is excited to be a Community Engagement Partner with the School of Arts & Culture at Mexican Heritage Plaza!
The School of Arts and Culture at MHP (SOAC) is an East San José vibrant cultural institution. Founded in 2011, SOAC activates a vital local asset – the Mexican Heritage Plaza; a 6-acre, $35M City facility with an expansive plaza and theatre. Annually, SOAC hosts over 100,000 people. Through their core programming, they catalyze creativity and empower the community. Holding and providing space for cultural expression in marginalized communities is critical.
Through SOAC’s Community Engagement Program (CEP), East San José’s community culture is practiced, affirmed, and celebrated in a way that is not happening in mainstream America. This program uplifts our community’s heritage through authentic placemaking and relevant multicultural productions. Annually, the School works with over 60 partners to activate the Plaza. They work with local artists, multicultural institutions, and non-profits to provide relevant, multicultural programming for our diverse community.
