We believe that moving together builds community, helps our mental health, and brings joy to oursleves and those around us.
Join local choreographer and dancer Katie Chapin for a fun community dance class before the SpARC Dance Festival performance where everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate! The class will start with a somatic warm-up to help you connect with your body before diving in. No need to worry about fancy turns or how flexible you are—The class will focus on accessible, rhythmic movement and arm gestures. The class will have some somatic work plus playing with Laban's 8 movements rhythmically. You’ll even get a chance to learn a section from Katie’s upcoming piece, which will be featured in the show!

"The first love I have ever known is dance. Well before I ever started taking classes, if there was music playing, I was moving. As I have grown into the young adult that I am, it makes me proud to say that the dance community I grew up in and the art of expression that dance shows itself to be, have shaped me into the person and artist I am today. Not only did dance show me from a young age what true discipline and etiquette looked and felt like, but the art form also helped me navigate the great ups and downs of childhood and now leads me into adulthood.
There is only one thing I love more than dancing in this world, and that’s sharing that love I have with others. I choose to pass on this love of dance by teaching it to others, anyone who is willing to learn, so that they may also be a part of the community and world that dance has to offer. I know what dance and all its assets have done for me, and I wish to share those same values with my fellow dancers.
I am committed to educating and training dancers in a diverse range of genres in the disciplines of dance technique, etiquette, and kinesthetics while growing together in a community that fosters equality and honesty while maintaining the space to be non-toxic. Throughout the dancers' education with me, I will train them to gain the skills they need to trust their bodies and become artists who are able to create whatever they so choose with their own unique, organic, signature style to further inspire a lasting love and appreciation for dance through artistic experience."
